| The U.S. Mine Safety & Health Administration and the
National Mining Association, jointly sponsor mining's most prestigious
safety award, the "Sentinels of Safety".
Winners of the competition represent operations in eight categories that
worked the most employee hours in 1998 without suffering a lost-time
injury. Glacial Sand & Gravel Co.'s Bridgeburg Dredge &
Mill and the Cowansville Shop accumulated over seventy-eight thousand
employee work hours to win the award in the dredge category. This is
the third time that the Bridgeburg and Cowansville operations have won the
"Sentinels of Safety", winning in 1993 and 1996 as
well. Company President, Mark A. Snyder, attributes the success to
the dedicated, loyal, and experienced workforce that are at the Bridgeburg
Dredge & Mill and the Cowansville Shop.
Snyder attended the National Mining Association's Fall
Convention in St. Louis to receive the award from the Assistant Secretary
for Mine Safety and Health, J. Davitt McAteer. The miners who
contributed to the success will receive an embroidered jacket with the
"Sentinels of Safety" logo, courtesy of the
company.
Glacial Sand & Gravel Co. is part of the family-owned
Snyder Associated Companies, Inc. of Kittanning.
